National Automation Competition/Prize For PLC/SCADA Programming/Scripting simulation

Advanxis @ 10 Presents:

 National Automation Competition/Prize on PLC/SCADA Programming/Scripting simulation.

A novel Technical Competition/Price for Industrial automation!

Advanxis Technologies and process automation is an indigenous Industrial service provider and technological company with extensive expertise In process automation and instrumentation, electrical control panels and electrification, mechanical/Process designs and fabrication, EPC projects as well as FEED and detailed engineering.

As part of the event marking our 10th year anniversary celebration of Advanxis Technologies and Process automation we are placing some premium prize and reward to deserving individuals who can prove their mantle in the field of industrial automation. We are rewarding the best PLC programmer and HMI/SCADA graphics developer with the following prize money

Ist Prize N1,000,000
2nd Prize: N500,000
3rd Prize: N200,000

& Lots of consolation Prizes to be won

The task of the Competition/prize involves developing and writing the logic program as well as developing the SCADA/HMI graphics for our Hypothetical fruit juice process.

The process diagram is as shown below:

Control Narrative for Advanxis Hypothetical fruit juice Process

  • Fruit juice is produced from chemical A through D and water.
  • Tank AB (Radius 1m, Length 10m) admits chemical A, Water and Chemical B in the volume ratio of 10 : 7 : 8 m3 respectively and as shown in fig 1 above
  •  Similar ratio is also true for tank CD (Radius 1m, Length 10m) as shown in fig 1 above
  • After admitting the chemicals and water, the respective mixers for tank AB and CD comes on for 10 secs and 15 secs as shown.
  • spherical Vessel EF (Radius 1m) admits mixture AB via valve VE and mixture CD via valve VF. The volume is 1m3 to 2m3 of each respectively.
  • Tank AB and Tank CD should regenerate their content when the volume of mixer is equal or less than 4m3
  • Vessel EF after admitting mixtures will mix via mixer MEF for 30s
  • The mixture will be chilled via a cascade control to within 5oC
  • Mixture in Vessel EF is within specification only when TT is between 4 to 6oC
  • Vessel EF regenerates its content when the volume of mixture is less than or equal to 0.1m3
  •  Once the mixture is within specification, robotic arm RBA1 picks bottle from the first conveyor and Place on the second conveyor as shown in the diagram. That operation takes 3s to complete
  •  Bottle is sensed by sensor 1 (S1) after RBA1 arm placed it on the second conveyor. Conveyor moves for 5 secs to arrive at the filling station.
  •  Bottle fills to 2 litres in 4s, moves to subsequent stations within time shown in the figure: 3s cocking station, 3s operation time; 1s Labeling Station, 3s operation time; 3s RBA2 pick and place robotic arm, 2s operation time. A Pack of 12 bottles is packaged by Robot RBA3 and it takes 2s operational times to package, remove and place another empty pack.
  •  Note: the limit switches in all the on/off valves will be used to confirm the open (LSO) and the closed (LSC) statuses of the valves and will serve as a permissive to progress the control sequence. Also, develop a valve-limit switch command/feedback subroutine to generate all possible alarming conditions and feedback statuses of the valves.
  • Note: The volume measurements for the tanks and the spherical vessel are all indirect volume measurement that must be derived from the level measurement.

The Graphics Development requirement.

  • Reproduce the graphics of the process plant as shown in Fig 1
  • Ensure you define your colour animation convention for your Valves (Open/Close/fault)
  • Ensure you apply appropriate animation convention for your tank filling.
  • Ensure your bottle animation movement is as much as possible realistic by applying appropriate animation/scripting.
  • Whenever possible, apply appropriate animation/scripting to achieve realistic process graphics.

Entry Procedure

The competition will involve stage 1 or entry stage and stage 2 or the final stage

Stage 1 or Entry Stage

This is the entry stage and it involves non software solution.

Find below the activities for this stage:

  • Registration for the competition (Register here)
  • once registered you will automatically receive an acknowledgement  email
  • Write a summary of not more than three pages on how you are going to approach the solution
  • The summary will highlight: valve-limit switch command/feedback subroutine algorithm/pseudo code, the indirect volume measurement from level measurement and the ensuing calculation, the programming language(s) you would employ. Summary of other programming details that would be required to achieve the control narrative and finally the summary of how the graphics animation would be achieved based on the control narrative as well as the process diagram.
  • The entry must be submitted to Prize@advanxis.com
  • This stage will end on Wednesday 18th December, 2024. Time: 12AM. Hence, all entries must be submitted on or before that time.
  • Successful candidate will be qualified for stage 2.

The Second Stage/Final stage

This stage will involve Software implementation of the process logic and graphics. The PLC/HMI/SCADA software of choice are: TIA Portal, Control Studio/Contrologix/FactoryTalk SE/ME as well as Intouch.

Find below the activities for this stage:

  • The shortlisted/Successful candidates will be scheduled for 120mins online implementation of the logic/graphics for the process
  • The Top successful candidates will be unveiled and the prize money awarded on the anniversary celebration day, 21st of December, 2024. Venue: Advanxis Technologies and Process Automation Facility, 22 Trans Amadi Road, Trans Amadi Industrial Layout, Port Harcourt.

Hurry up! And register, as registration is still ongoing!
